Our Name: What Does "Mukti" Mean in the
Marathi Language?
"Mukti"
means "salvation," "freedom" or
"liberation" in the Marathi
language and is pronounced
"Mook-ti" (as
in "book-tea.")
Since our opening in 1898 destitute
Indian children and women have come to
Mukti for shelter and care. Many of
these abandoned girls have grown up to
be happy and productive contributors to
Indian society.

Mukti girls are serving as nurses,
doctors teachers, home makers,
professionals and Christian workers.
Mukti alumni are helping to transform
India and have helped elevate the status
of Indian women and children.

Mukti Mission is a
faith based non-sectarian Christian
organization. We are working to carry
out Biblical principles which include
sharing the love of Christ, caring for
the poor, orphans, widows and others in
need. Mukti provides services to all
needy children and adults without regard
to religion, race, caste, or ethnic
background.
